Ruger’s first AR-style rifle, the SR-556 is equipped with a clean and reliable two-stage piston driven operating system, four-position gas regulator, chrome-lined, cold hammer-forged barrel, plus it comes standard with a host of quality accessories that AR shooters desire.
Continuing in the tradition of innovation and excellence, the new Ruger® SR-556 is a two-stage piston driven AR-style rifle. The chrome-lined gas block and chrome-plated piston and regulator work together to provide a smooth power delivery stroke to the bolt carrier. All of the by-products of the gas system are vented out of the bottom of the gas block and away from the bolt carrier, keeping the action clean and free from contaminants. This patent-pending operating system allows the SR-556 to run cleaner and cooler, thus providing significantly improved reliability over gas driven rifles while making the SR-556 easier to maintain. Adding to the rugged reliability of the SR-556 is the four-position, chrome-plated gas regulator. The regulator and piston driven system puts the operator in control, allowing the shooter to tune the rifle to specific ammunition conditions, which in turn minimizes recoil and maximizes reliability and long-term endurance. The gas system may be closed completely for manual operation during training or when using a suppressor.
The compact 16-1/8" chrome-lined barrel is cold hammer-forged from Mil-Spec 41V45 steel, providing outstanding accuracy potential and longevity. These barrels are made to exacting tolerances in-house at Ruger, which offers some of the best barrels available anywhere, at any price.
